Volunteering with 1st Chilton Scout Group is a chance to make a difference—and discover something new about yourself along the way.
Whether you’re an adult looking to give back or a young person exploring leadership, your time and energy can help shape young lives, support your community, and create lasting memories.
What Do Volunteers Do?
Volunteering doesn’t mean a full-time commitment (unless you want it to!). There are many ways you can help:
- Supporting weekly sessions (games, crafts, activities)
- Helping out at camps, events, or trips
- Taking on a leadership or assistant role
- Lending a hand with admin, fundraising, or behind-the-scenes tasks
Even just one hour a week can make a big impact.
Why Adults Volunteer
Volunteering as an adult is a great way to:
- Give something back to the local community
- Support young people as they grow, learn and explore
- Learn new skills and gain experience in leadership, planning and teamwork
- Meet new people and be part of a friendly, welcoming team
- Have fun! (Yes, it really is!)
No experience with Scouting? No problem. We provide training and support, and we always work as a team.
Why Young Leaders (Ages 14–18)?
Becoming a Young Leader is the perfect way to:
- Build confidence and leadership skills
- Gain experience for your CV, Duke of Edinburgh Award, or college/job applications
- Get involved in planning and running activities
- Make a real difference to younger members
- Be part of a fun, supportive team of adults and fellow young leaders
We allow up to two Young Leaders per section, so you’ll always have a clear role, with guidance from adult leaders.
Skills for Life
Scouting is built on the idea of learning by doing—for young people and volunteers. Many of our volunteers say they’ve gained:
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Team leadership and organisation
- Confidence in working with children and young people
- Lasting friendships and a deeper connection to their community
