What goes on at Scouts

Here's what Scouts is about and what they typically get up to.

Scouts are adventurous, capable, and ready to take the lead. This section is all about pushing boundaries, trying new things, and building real life skills—while still having loads of fun.

Real Adventure

Scouts take on bigger and bolder activities, including:

  • Campfire cooking, hiking, and backwoods survival
  • Climbing, archery, paddleboarding and other adventurous pursuits
  • First aid, navigation and bushcraft skills
  • DIY projects and challenges like building a rope bridge or escape room
  • Leadership tasks and helping younger sections

Scouts are encouraged to be involved in planning activities and leading parts of the programme themselves.

Camps and Expeditions

Camping is a key part of Scouts—and they’ll get plenty of it! From overnight stays to weekend camps, Scouts learn how to pitch tents, cook meals, and work as a patrol. It’s all about teamwork, self-reliance, and a sense of achievement.

Progress and Responsibility

Scouts earn badges for the skills they build and the challenges they complete. They also start setting personal goals, and many work towards their Chief Scout’s Gold Award—the top award in Scouts.

We also support up to two Young Leaders per section, who help run sessions and gain valuable experience towards leadership or Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
